I started treatment after a severe manic episode and a period in hospital. With steady dedication to therapy and support, I was able to develop a more rigorous practice of monitoring my mood, learning to pick up the early signs of depression and mania and implementing strategies to curb them before they got out of hand.
Therapy also helped guide me to seek more appropriate psychiatric care which really helped with stabilising my daily mood. From a place of strength, I’ve been able to work on issues that go beyond managing my mood and relate more broadly to my overall wellbeing.
Therapy has had a transformative impact on my attitude towards illness, and consequently, the way I accept and work with the many curve balls it throws my way!
Some recent challenges I’ve been working through include building and improving my social relationships, making time for pursuing my passions, and pushing myself to meet fitness goals. Living with bipolar is difficult, and has taken my entire adult life to learn how to navigate its many challenges.
